Style Tips Vol 1: Outerwear

Ok, i kinda took this idea from Glenn O'Brien, but imitation is the best form a flattery (that is how the saying goes isnt it?). So without futher ado, S&V and Chokotoshi present: Style Tips for the un-fly and un-flashy. The subject this week: Outerwear. I think im one of the only people to notice that when ever it gets a little cold and/or wet outside, everyone seem to head to closet for their favorite hoodie. You know which one i'm talking about: That hoodie that you've had for at least 3 years, but has only been washed 3 times. The one that is always there for you on the nights you have to walk you drunk ass home in the blistering cold. yeah, thats the one im talking about. Now dont get my wrong, there really is nothing wrong with your go-to hoodie (apart from it needing a wash or two), but there is so much more out there then just hoodies for when the good lord decides ta turn the thermostat all the way to the left.

The Trench Coat

I already know what some of you are saying: "is this nigga for real?". And the reply to that question is a big "yes". I'll be the first to admit, i was a lil sceptical myself about putting one on my back, but after getting one from a good freind i see why almost every important business exec has at least one of these in thier closet. I've gotten to the point where im happy for it to rain just so i can throw mine on. Heres a few tips from GQ.com on the trench coat:

The Trench: How to Belt Up Successfully

• The collar is designed to be flipped up (it keeps your neck dry, and it looks better that way). Pop the back, but let the sides hang loose for an easier look.

• If your trench fits as well as it should, you don’t need to cinch the belt around your waist (which can be a little too ladylike). Let it hang or loosely tie it behind your back.

• A khaki trench always works, be it in a darker tan or a lighter shade like cement. Black is also a great option, but it says fashion more than it does business.

• Your trench should hit anywhere between two and six inches above the knee. And it should feel snug, with slim, clean lines.

The Pea Coat

For those of you who still dont like the classic look of the trench, there is other options that still have a more grown and sexy look. The Pea Coat is already a classic from coast to coast, and all over the globe. Its one of those things that Anyone can pull off a mac. Its genius lies in its simplicity—no lapels, no belt, no epaulets. It looks just as good with a T-shirt and jeans as it does with slacks and a collared shirt.

The M-65

For those of you who still arent ready to get your grown man on, there are still options. The M-65 field jacket has been around since WWII, and is still going strong. They recently have been seen alot more due to various Streetwear labels producing their own versions of the classic look.

Well thats that for this Volume of Style Tips, so if i see any of you in that "Good 'ol Hoodie" i'll just walk away and shake my head in shame...
